Spring Has Sprung! And So Have You!

When you see a tiny plant, a sprout that has just recently emerged from the thawed ground, think of what that sprout had to overcome to get to this point. (Warning: Metaphor Coming!)

For that little sprout to grow up to the plant it was meant to be, it first had to break out of its shell and push its way up through the dirt. Just like the sprout, we all have, or had obstacles in our lives. Many we put there ourselves. That is not to say that the obstacles don’t have merit. When it was a seed, that tiny sprout needed its shell for protection. It needed to be buried in the earth so it could put down roots and grow.

Right now, I see myself as a new sprout, full of potential. I have overcome a lot to get here. Some of my protection, in the form of my obsessive-compulsive disorder, became an obstacle to growth. I had to break free. There are still bits of that shell stuck to me, but they no longer get in my way. I also had to push past habits that became self-destructive, and let them go.

I don’t know what kind of tree I am growing into — I don’t know if that’s completely pre-determined. I do know, that just like a plant, I can’t grow on my own; I need nourishment. The plant needs water and nutrients and I need love and support. I can only get it if I am open to receive it.
