OCD and Manifestation

OCD is Incompatible with Manifestation

The basic premise of manifestation according to the Law of Attraction is that like attracts like. If you dwell in negativity and fear, you manifest more of it. If you reside in positivity and focus on the future you want, you attract it.

Obsessive compulsive disorder is fear-based. Whether it’s a specific fear (“I have to check my stove again or the house will burn down!”) or an abstract fear (“If I don’t touch this and count that something dreadful will happen!”) it’s not helping you to manifest the life that you want.

It would be different if you had a sort of OCD that you thoroughly enjoyed doing. For example, if every time you washed your hands 20 times it brought you feelings of freedom and focused your mind on a perfect loving relationship that you expect for your future, then yes, by all means, keep doing it! If that’s the type of unheard-of OCD you have, then you are a mystical creature using magic to create the perfect life.

But to my knowledge, that kind of OCD doesn’t exist. OCD is an irrational attempt to stave off disaster. And by focusing on disaster, you are inviting more of it into your life. This doesn’t mean that you can’t engage in practices of manifestation while suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder. But it does mean that your manifestation practice will be more effective as you reduce your OCD habits.

Try this:

  1. Create a feeling of deep peace with the following simple calming technique.
  2. Focus your thought and, most importantly, your feelings on something you want to attract using the following manifestation technique.

Calming:

  1. Find a quiet place, sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  2. Hold you hands flat, facing and about an inch away from your ears and breath in deeply and slowly.
  3. For your slow exhale, move your hands in front of your face, next to one another, your palms just an inch away from your cheeks, your straight fingers in front of your eyes.
  4. Breath in deeply in this position.
  5. For your next exhale, move your hands down to a prayer position in front of your heart.
  6. Repeat the above steps three times.
  7. Be aware of how you feel, in contrast to how you felt before this exercise.
  8. Now place your hands, on on top of the other, over your heart and repeat this mantra slowly, really feeling the truth of the words:
  • “I am relaxed, I am tranquil, I am fearless, I am care-free.”

Manifesting:

  1. Keeping your hands over your heart, ask your heart what your true desire is. You may desire a lot of things with a lot of details, but see if you can feel one basic desire, like, “loving companionship,” or “getting along well with my colleagues.” Maybe your deepest desire is more material and that’s OK, too.
  2. Let your hands rest on your legs and, still with your eyes closed, picture what this desire will be like for you when it manifests in your life. Focus on:
  3. Details of what it looks like
  4. Any sounds or smells or other physical sensations associated with it
  5. Most importantly, how it makes you feel.

6. Feel the gratitude for this desire having come real in your life. Not, “I will be grateful….” but “I am grateful.”

7. Keep imagining this reality and rest in this feeling of gratitude for about 20 seconds.

8. Let it go and continue on with the rest of your day or night.

There are endless methods to relieve anxiety and to focus instead on your vision for your future. Whatever method you use, know that focusing on what you don’t want to come to pass is not the way to attract what you do want to come to pass. And the latter feels so much better than the first.
