Have you ever noticed that when you are having a bad day, everything seems to confirm it? Someone cuts you off in traffic, you spill your coffee, your cat jumps on your shoulders, digging her claws into your tender flesh…. And when you are having a good day, everything seem to go your way: you get the opportunity to let someone in a hurry drive in front of you, probably to visit their spouse in the emergency room, you thankfully spill your coffee that you didn’t need because you’ve had too much caffeine, your cat makes you laugh by adorably jumping on you in a sign of trust and affection….

How we frame things is influenced by our state of mind and, in turn, influences our state of mind. It’s a reinforcing loop. If it’s a loop of negativity, you have the power to flip the narrative and turn it into a loop of positivity. This can have immediate and long-lasting benefits.

You spot a perfect space and someone takes it. At that moment, you can react through anger. “Not fair! That was myyyyyyyyy space! Now I’ll be late. Nothing good ever happens to me …” and on and on. Now you’re angry and resentful. But did that space really belong to you? You can interrupt that spiral of self-defeating despair by thinking, “Oh good for them! They got their perfect parking space. I can’t wait for my own perfect parking space!” After…
