Embracing Flow

If you want to be embraced by the flow of life, you’ve got to notice those little moments of flow that open up to you and dwell in feelings of gratitude for them.

For example, yesterday, after doing my morning Healer Within movements, where I focus on being Qi and living in the flow of Qi, I went downstairs to the front door, my arms full of stuff to put in my car. There is a door at the foot of the stairs that opens to a landing with the front door of the house. As I walked through the first door, air pressure (I assume) opened the second door for me. The timing was perfect. I could have just thought, “That was weird.” Instead, I appreciated that the Universe opened the door for me, and attributed it to me living in the flow of life. I was, and am, grateful.

All sorts of things come across your path during the day: small and large acts of loving-kindness, as well as challenges. These things happen, but you are free to decide what to focus on, where to put your creative energy. If you get pissed off at the person who cuts you off in traffic and feed that anger by acting out aggressively, you are tightening up qi in your solar plexus chakra and inhibiting its healthy flow within. You are also taking yourself out of the positive flow of life.

Negativity seeds negativity, and positivity seeds positivity. You can feel anger and let it go, get back into the flow. You can even go one step further and transform the negative experience into a positive one that feels good inside. If you find yourself irritated with a bad driver, you can start by thinking, “I know that was an an accident; I’ve made driving errors myself.” You then might wish something positive, such as, “I hope that person safety gets where they are going.” You can even take it to the next level by thanking the Universe: “Thank you for the magnificent outcome of this situation,” because that bad driving experience may help you to drive more mindfully, may help you to avoid a future accident. Perhaps you were slowed down and missed the green light. It’s possible (who knows?) that by being delayed, you may have been saved from some terrible occurrence. The Universe might be looking out for you. Or maybe it’s something as simple as the Universe giving you an opportunity to slow down and appreciate the beautiful fall foliage.

You are flowing down a stream in life, but you have some choices about which part of the stream to ride down: The part with jagged rocks and dangerous whirlpools, or the part with a gentle flow that feels great to be a part of.
