The Power of Surrendering

Here’s a thought experiment. Imagine having a replica of yourself. Every time an OCD urge arose, you could hand it off to the 2nd you to take care of, freeing you to live your life unencumbered by OCD. Well, it turns out that you can do essentially that, through the…

Nothing Matters

except life — An eighteenth century French prisoner. Who cares what happened to them on a Tuesday? Nothing matters, except life. Two people arguing about something. About what? It does not matter. The Person I Want to Be

a simple method to determine whether to take a morally questionable action — When I’m not sure about whether or not to do something, I hold my hand in front of me and think, this is the person I am. Above it is the person I want to be. Below is the person I don’t want to be. Will the action I am contemplating take me toward or away from the person I want to be? I don’t know if this can be effective in curbing obsessive compulsive behavior. I can’t test it directly for that, since I have cured myself of OCD. But I do know that it helps me do the right thing when I have other unhealthy, addictive urges.

Noise

Finding your higher self isn’t so much a matter of seeking it as it is a matter of removing obstacles obscuring it. These obstacles are put in place by our egos. As the ego settles down, the true self is revealed. One obstacle to meditation is the belief that our…

Altering Habits

Habits stifle cognitive and creative growth. People who do everything by habit are essentially living like zombies (except for the eating brains part, hopefully). OCD is a collection of powerful habits that can rule your life. But even when I got rid of my OCD, I found I was mindlessly…
